Camera Advice

HELP! I've been working my butt off saving for a canon digital SLR this summer, and I'm finally at the point where I can buy one. However, although the time elapsed has helped me advance financially, it has not helped me make up my mind as to which one to get! On the one hand, there's the cost efficient 400d (aka Rebel XTi) and on the other, there's the snazzy new 40D (the 30D's successor which came out last week). Should I go the cheaper route, be able to get more and/or better lenses and then eventually upgrade, or should I go all out?
